Pico 4 Accessories Review -AMVR Face Cover, Knuckle Straps and Table Tennis Adaptor
Today we look at various accessories that have sweetened my time with my Pico 4.
As you already know, I think the Pico 4 is one of the best budget VR headsets on the market and I had a very good time in virtual reality with it. However, there is always room for improvement. For example, the face pad, which has about the feel-good factor of steel wool, or the controllers, which you always have to hold tightly in your hands are a pain in longer playsessions. This is where AMVR comes into play. The makers of countless accessories for the Quest 2 have also ventured into the Pico 4 and thrown various gadgets onto the market that aim to improve your time with your precious headset. I am now in the fortunate position of being able to test them and see if they improve my time with my Pico 4.
AMVR Pico 4 PU Leather Face Cover - A Face Flatterer
First, let’s take a look at the AMVR Pico 4 PU Leather Face Cover. The box includes a foam pad and the facial interface bracket, a light blocker for the nose area, and a large microfiber cloth. The bracket can be attached to the headset via magnets, just like the original facial interface, and quickly snaps into place. The foam pad itself consists of a soft foam cushion, which is wrapped in PU leather. Right after the first few minutes I immediately noticed how much more comfortable the AMVR foam pad sits on my face. I no longer had any of the problems with light leaks or pressure points that I had with the original facial interface that came with my headset. I could only criticize that only one foam pad is included in the box. As for the FOV, I had no major improvements. However, I had already almost screwed the lenses into my eyes with the original face pad. That may differ from person to person.
AMVR Knuckle Straps - An Inexpensive Solution for Index like Knuckle Straps
The need to constantly grip the controller with your fingers is now history. Especially during longer gaming sessions and situations where you have to throw something the missing hand strap on the Pico controllers was very annoying. I have to say that I was spoiled here by the Index controllers which roll out of the factory with a grip relief as a standard. The hand strap supplements from AMVR offers a pretty good solution here for little money. Even with fast and jerky movements, the controllers remain securely attached to your hands. In addition, you can quickly determine how tightly the knuckle strap should sit on your hand with an elastic band. Unfortunately, there was one drawback. I would have liked to see a fabric cover for the silicone strap in the scope of delivery, since it can get uncomfortable after longer gaming sessions.
AMVR Table Tennis Adaptor - Nice for Casual Players
Unfortunately, I am not a professional when it comes to table tennis. Nevertheless, I had a lot of fun with the controller adapter. Once the controller was locked in place, it was firmly in the holder and even with fast strokes I never had the fear that something could come loose. The price of just under 27 dollars is still within the tolerance range if you only swing the table tennis bat from time to time. Table tennis pros might have problems with the weight distribution, though, since the adapter’s center of gravity is very far in the upper area because the controller is attached there.
Here is a picture of how the Pico 4 controller sits in the adapter mount. This positioning causes the adapter to not feel like a real ping pong paddle and is therefore more aimed at players who only occasionally knock balls through the virtual pad.
Conclusion: Good accessories for Pico 4 owners
Accessories for the Pico 4 are still quite rare and therefore I am glad that AMVR has thrown a few good accessories on the market. Especially the face cover upgrade and the knuckle straps made me very happy during longer gaming sessions. The table tennis holder for the Pico 4 controllers is quite nice for casual fans of the cuddly ball sport, but it didn’t knock my socks off as a table tennis noob. However, if you like Eleven table tennis, it might be worth a look. If you are interested in some upgrades for your Pico 4 you can find all products on the AMVR storepage.
